On the subject of 'scum', this blog post sums up what has been bugging me about commentators who don't look beyond the superficial.

Scum

Hold up a mirror when you say "shoot young people on sight without a trial: the SCUM" and just look at what *you* are in danger of becoming.

Some of these 'revolting' people have absolutely nothing to lose (and never have had anything to lose), yet they are vilified by 'scum' politicians, and journalists who are happy to prop up the status quo which keeps them in plasma TVs in their Islington or Notting Hill pads.

When the real world starts to impinge on their comfort zone, it's 'bring on the water cannon' to wash the scum away.
