Default AHEd stats: home ed families less likely to abuse

AHEd's analysis of comparative abuse statistics demonstrate that home educating families are far less likely to abuse their children than the rest of the population.

We now know that Badman is either incapable of compiling and analysing statistics, or else the raw data have been deliberately misrepresented to suit his own and/or the government's agenda. In short Badman and Balls have been bubbled.

A big thank you to AHEd members for their collective efforts on this project, especially Clare, Michelle and Lynn.

Hats off to you all.

Default Bad Science

Ben Goldacre (strange reposte to Badman!) runs a site talking about dodgy statistics etc (badscience.net). His email is ben@badscience.net

Might be worth a contact?

Thanks for that link Diane. A really interesting site.

The Asking for it post shows just what damage journos can do with incomplete or inaccurate stats on a sensitive subject such as rape.

Quote:
Repeatedly, unpublished work – often of a highly speculative and eye-catching nature – is shepherded into newspapers by the press officers of the British Psychological Society, and other organisations. A rash of news coverage and popular speculation ensues, in a situation where nobody can read the academic work. I could only get to the reality of what was measured, and how, by personally tracking down and speaking to an MSc student about her dissertation on the phone. In any situation this would be ridiculous, but in a sensitive area such as rape it is blind, irresponsible, coverage-hungry foolishness.
I agree he would be worth contacting about the Badman debacle, but probably best coming from someone in England.

Hi Ali,

I'll give it a whirl then.

Yes, I agree. Irresponsible journalism is a massive problem and needs to be stamped out. That's a dreadful thing - about the rape cases. We are regressing as a society. I recall being shocked that some of the 'evidence' against Anne Boleyn was so obviously made up and sensational, but I see examples in the news every day.

When my eldest was in school, two teachers did their best to blame my child for the bullying she endured. Supposedly educated people! (So much for school education) But when you are to blame and you want to shift the blame to someone else, truth and justice go out the window.
