Not too bad here, no allotments but sometimes it's possible to rent a field from a farmer, 12 miles from Bude, village hall, family friendly pub, 2 shops (including post office) Drs surgery, hardware store, 1 bus to one destination.

Default Peace News Summer Camp

Not sure how interested anyone here will be, but I have a leaflet here that came with the last issue of Peace News about the summer camp they are organising. I'm only mentioning it on this thread because one of the workshops/talks is called Setting Up a Housing Co-op! There will also be "consensus decision making and facilitation workshops", which sounds helpful too.

The camp takes place in Oxfordshire on 23-27 July 09, and the cost is a sliding scale, 15 to 50 pounds depending what you can afford.

There's a website here www.peacenewscamp.info

Again, don't know how interested anyone will be, but I just thought of this thread when I saw some of the workshops/talks they will be having. It does look pretty good - I wish I could go but all spare cash is going towards the move to Scotland at the mo!

Default From the forums blog.....

http://www.home-education.biz/Blogs/...rcel-o-rogues/

Quote:
Robert Burns summed it up nicely in 1791 when he described as a "parcel o' rogues" the Scots bourgeoisie, who, in ratifying the 1707 Treaty of Union contrary to the defining principles of the Declaration of Arbroath, sold the autonomy, independence and sovereignty of the people of Scotland in exchange for "English gold".

Although the context and century may be different, the principles behind Scotland's famous declaration of freedom are analogous to the long held right of parents to educate their children independently of the state. Above all else, home educators value freedom, but their autonomy, independence and right to self-determination are currently under threat from the policies of the UK Government and the actions of a few individuals claiming representative status.

Whip round, folks? A very nice spot and a very reasonable price.

Fasque back on the market

Default Culdees Eco Village

Culdees Eco Village, near Aberfeldy in Perthshire, has just been listed in the business directory and may be of interest to those following this thread.

I'd definitely be interested. Coincidentally, a couple of years ago I realised that Scotland was calling me and I decided to go live there. We are autonomous and my children are reaching the age when they will be free of the 'school system' (that is, out of the inspector's clutches). But I think an autonomous community would be wonderful. Equally, though, I don't like constant involvement with other people. Wouldn't mind colonising a village...
