A note about terminology

Home Education Forums is essentially a resource for home educating families and everyone with an interest in elective home education in the UK.

While the American term 'homeschooling' is recognised and used extensively by the public and the media, many home educators in the UK (including us!) prefer to use the generic terms 'home education', 'elective home education' or 'home-based education' to describe their educational choice.

Although references to 'homeschooling' may be found on this site, they will generally be used to describe the formal 'school at home' approach which is adopted by some, but by no means all, home educators in the UK.
