Default Government webpage for every citizen in the race to create a paperless society

Just think what fun the hackers will have with these...

Government webpage for every citizen in the race to create a paperless society

Quote:
The aim is that within a year, everybody in the country should have a personalised website through which they would be able to find out about local services and do business with the Government. A unique identifier will allow citizens to apply for a place for their child at school, book a doctor’s appointment, claim benefits, get a new passport, pay council tax or register a car from their computer at home.
No thanks.

Quote:
Over the next three years, the secure site will be expanded to allow people to interact with their children’s teachers or ask medical advice from their doctor through a government version of Facebook.

But union leaders and privacy experts immediately warned that the Government’s record on IT projects was already catastrophic and there would be key concerns about privacy, data protection and fraud. In addition many elderly, disabled and undereducated people find it difficult to carry out transactions online.
Another project dooomed to failure, but not before they plough billions into Crapita or equivalent.

Erk. Sounds a lot like the set up for Self Assessment and VAT, which has links through already to the ability to check your eligibility for various tax credits and a promise that 'online applications will be available soon'

Sorry, although there is much worth reading, meant to say go to:

3. A VISION FOR THE ELECTRONIC
DELIVERY OF GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Way back when this was first discovered we were sure that it must be a spoof

Many years ago I used to think this was a good idea, but that was before I discovered that Orwell's 1984 was a Government manual, not a work of fiction.

Now I avoid giving the Government any information that I don't have to.

Golly Gosh! That was vey Enid Blyton meets Brave New World and 1984!!

I'll just take another 'Tranx' and then it won't seem threatening at all any more. As we're going to be referred to as Citizens henceforth, will we be calling each other Comrade ?

It's quite easy to predict what a complete shambles this would be, just look at how well NHS Direct Works - or doesn't

It would be laughable, if it weren't for our taxes being hiked to pay for it
