Default Lancashire investigates rise in home educated children

(1) Report in The Chorley Citizen, 8th January.

"I would encourage people who have experience of Elective Home Education to write to us with their views so that we can reflect them in our recommendations to the council."

Write to Beverley Reid, overview and scrutiny, 2nd Floor Christ Church Precinct, P.O.Box 78, Fishergate, County Hall, Preston, PR1 8XJ; or email scrutiny@lancashire.gov.uk by the end of January 2009

(2) Report in Children & Young People Now magazine, 9th January 2009.

Concerns were raised after a report showed that the amount of home-educated children in Lancashire has doubled in the past eight years, to over 450. An investigation will now be carried out by the Overview and Scrutiny task group for Elective Home Education, to ensure that home-schooled children are receiving a good education, while assessing the level of access the council have to these children in order to check on their welfare.

Lancashire council is inviting members of the public with experience in home education, and teachers who have been on visits to come forward with their views. The group will draw its conclusions towards the end of March.
