Default Children educated at home more at risk of abuse

Shockingly bad twisted reporting in the Independent:

A bombardment of comments from home educators required!

Children educated at home are twice as likely to be on social services registers for being at risk of abuse as the rest of the population, the head of a government inquiry into home education said yesterday.
And where, pray, is his evidence? An FOI request needs to be sent to the DSCF (yes, I know, they don't adhere to the law on that either) asking for evidence to support this claim. You know, numbers and proper statistics on which any such claim must surely be based.

AHEd's research found no such evidence when they asked individual LAs for this information. As ever, it seems that Badman just makes up stories to suit his own agenda which (in the light of the Laming/Hodge Islington sacandal) makes me deeply suspicious of his motives towards children.

Default FOI request

Comparative statistics requested: school pupils and home educated children on "at risk" registers

Maybe we'll get a reply some time before the consultation closes.

Then again...

Commented on there and quickly blogged about it too (linked here) as it looks like being a busy weekend traffic-wise:

Am getting seriously annoyed with the avalanche of nonsense

Alex - we will certainly see...

A non response to this FOI request has now been posted on the What Do They Know site.

Exemptions claimed, excessive fog shovelling and some seriously dodgy statistical analysis going on there.

Sugggestions for follow up?
