Hello,
I recently requested the option to flexi school my 6 year old daughter, to which the answer was a pretty definite no. I am hugely disappointed (especially because the headteacher admitted that her heart said yes but her head/LA said no). I don't feel she is given the individual attention that every child deserves at school, and feel I am best placed as her mother to provide her with opportunities to learn through enjoying life. I am now considering home education instead. My main problem is financial. I cannot afford to give up work. Is it possible to become a registered childminder and to home educate my 6 year old? I really quite like the idea from a socialisation point of view, and because I am an early years practitioner anyway. I would appreciate any words of wisdom, encouragement, advice and specifically to hear from anyone who has experience of childminding alongside home educating. Thank you in advance! Holly |

I believe there are others who successfully manage this. The downside is that you have to interact with officialdom for the childminder stuff, and that inevitably means the subject of your home education will come up. Depending on the attitude of your local council, this might make it harder to pursue your preferred course of home education.
