Home Education Forums (HEF) is a UK based interactive online community for home educating families, home-edupreneurs (home educating entrepreneurs) and all those with a personal or professional interest in home education.
HEF is committed to raising awareness of home education as a valid alternative to schooling, defending civil liberties and protecting fundamental freedoms. We aim to connect home educating families, encourage the pooling of resources, experience and expertise, nurture home-edupreneurship and facilitate preferential trading between community members through a dedicated business directory.
Unlike a number of other ‘UK’ home education websites and networks, where information and advice on English law predominates (and could potentially land those living elsewhere in hot water, or worse!), HEF takes great pains to ensure that website visitors and forum users are made fully aware that different legislation and guidance apply across the four constituent nations. Accordingly, our Home Education Law & Policy forums are organised by nation in order to minimise confusion and facilitate a better understanding of these differences, while the Scottish Home Education Forum (established in 1999) has its own dedicated sections. UK (or Britain) and England are no more synonymous than education and schooling and should therefore never be used interchangeably.
HEF is divided into public access forums and private members’ forums.
- Registered members may contribute to all discussions within the public networking and business forums, the content of which will be indexed by the search engines.
- Home educators who wish to access our private family forums should contact the admin team.
- Those who have a professional interest in home education should contact the admin team if they wish to access our dedicated professionals’ forum.
In addition, HEF hosts a number of independent local and special interest groups which impose specific access requirements.
Our forums are moderated by a team of experienced home educators, all of whom have been active in the home education community for many years and who are committed to promoting freedom of choice in education. Whilst HEF fully supports freedom of speech, the moderators will take immediate action to remove spam or other inappropriate or undesirable content and ask that members report any problems or offensive posts without hesitation.
